Rick is amazing!! And I will tell you why. *Disclaimer* Let me first state that this was a really embarrassing, not thinking, never-happening-again moment, & by no means, an indicator of my common sense or intelligence level whatsoever… 🙂 I had just purchased my laptop 2 wks prior to said incident – it was a typical AZ summer day (sunny, 115) I was loading up my 2 toddler sons into their carseats – in the process of strapping in son #1, I mindlessly leaned my laptop in its case up against the back tire & then ran around to the other side of the car to buckle(wrangle) my 2nd son into his seat, at which point sweat was streaming down my face & all I could think about was how quickly I could jump in my ACed car & get us to the pool… **FAIL** Yeah, I definitely backed over my laptop… it was a seemingly slow motion event, but sadly it was too late to stop the laws of physics. Tears accompanied the puddle of sweat I had accumulating on my lap… The entire LCD screen was crushed, the CDrom drive made a funny malfunctioning fan noise & was hanging a tiny screw, the bottom right side was warped & fractured. BUT, the outer framework & external buttons, as well as the keyboard within were untouched (besides a dent in outer frame). I turned it on & despite not being able to see the screen, the computer seemed to run fine.(And yes I do realize that this is just a material piece of tech crap, & I am extremely grateful I didn’t run over, say… a person) I ended up coming across Freelance after doing a search(on my desktop PC!) for computer repair companies in my area. I called a few places before finding Freelance, & since this was not your average “virus removal/data recovery” call, I was not getting much help or hope. Shortly after the first few letdowns, I got ahold of Rick at Freelance & he was super friendly right off the bat, & listened to my ridiculous story attentively – & instead of making a joke, he expressed genuine empathy towards the situation. He swung by my house in a matter of 15 minutes to pick up my crippled laptop, & his confident, yet laid-back personality put me at ease. He gave me progress reports during the wk – since the PC was so new, he had a bit of a hard time tracking down a new screen, but as soon as it was delivered to him, he went to town & fixed everything within an hr or 2. The exemplary repair(rebuild) bestowed upon my laptop, courtesy of Rick, was truly a form of art/magic/stroke of genius. You would never know a 4,500-pound car backed up & drove over my laptop. The price was right & it was back in my hands 1 wk after calling him(on a Saturday at that). It’s been almost 2 mths, & my laptop works just as well as the day I got it, & I don’t expect anything less anytime soon (aside from human error). Thank you, times a million Rick!!!
